Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters. This policy explains how CalmLingo collects and uses your data.

We built CalmLingo around listening, repetition, and gentle routine. That only works when you trust us with enough information to personalize playback and remember what you have saved—without surprising you with hidden uses of your data. Below we lay out what we collect, why we collect it, who may see it, and what you can do about your choices. Capitalized terms that are not defined here have the meaning given in our Terms of Service where applicable.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information in three broad buckets: what you tell us or save deliberately, how you use the app, and technical signals from the device that helps us keep CalmLingo stable and secure. Together this lets us resume your place in a story, show relevant decks, and fix crashes when something goes wrong.

a) Information You Provide

When you set up preferences or interact with learning features, you actively provide data that shapes your profile inside the app. None of this is posted publicly by default; it is used to run your personal learning session.

  • Language preferences
  • Learning level
  • Listening schedule
  • Saved words and examples

For instance, your chosen target language and rough level help us filter content so beginners are not overwhelmed, while advanced listeners get denser material. A listening schedule, where you configure one, may align reminders or suggested ritual times with when you said you prefer to study.

b) Usage Data

As you play audio, open lessons, or save vocabulary, our systems log those events in order to power history screens, “continue listening” flows, and product analytics that tell us which features deserve more polish.

  • Content you play
  • Words you save
  • App interactions (e.g., plays, bookmarks)

This category does not include listening to your microphone unless a future feature clearly asks for microphone access and explains why; today’s CalmLingo focuses on curated audio playback and UI interactions you initiate yourself.

c) Device Information

Devices vary widely. Knowing the model, OS version, and app build helps us reproduce bugs, respect platform-specific rules, and understand whether an issue affects one phone or an entire cohort of users.

  • Device type
  • App version
  • General location (non-precise, if applicable)

“General location” typically means coarse region inferred from network information—for example country or large metro area—not GPS-level tracking for mapping your movements. If we ever introduce precise location, we will describe it separately and request permission where required.

2. How We Use Your Information

Every use case below ties back to running CalmLingo or making it better. We do not use your vocabulary list to sell unrelated products, and we do not train unrelated third-party advertising models on your saved words.

We use your data to:

  • Personalize your learning experience
  • Recommend relevant content
  • Track your progress and history
  • Improve app performance and features

Personalization can mean surfacing the next chapter in a series you started, nudging you toward a meditation that matches your stated interests, or remembering translation display choices. “Improve app performance” includes fixing slow screens, reducing battery drain, and tuning CDN or caching behaviour after we spot patterns in aggregated diagnostics.

3. Data Storage

Your data is securely stored using trusted cloud services.

We take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Data may be processed on servers operated by established providers with contractual safeguards—including encryption in transit where standard for those services, access controls on our side, and employee training appropriate to the sensitivity of what we hold. Retention schedules are described below; backups may persist for a limited period even after you delete primary copies.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data.

“Selling” in the sense of exchanging your contact file or learning profile for money is not part of our business model. We may still share data where necessary to deliver the product or comply with law, as outlined next.

We may share limited data with:

  • Service providers (e.g., analytics, infrastructure)
  • Legal authorities if required

Processors who host databases, send transactional email, or measure aggregate engagement are bound by agreements that limit how they use information on our behalf. Law enforcement or regulator requests are evaluated carefully; we push back on overbroad demands where the law allows and notify users when not forbidden from doing so.

5. Your Choices

You stay in control of routine learning data that lives inside the product, subject to technical retention limits described elsewhere. Some choices require using specific screens in the app; others may need an email to support for account-level requests.

You can:

  • Update or change your preferences anytime
  • Delete saved words or data within the app
  • Stop using the app at any time

If you are in a jurisdiction that grants rights such as access, portability, or erasure, you may exercise those rights by contacting us. We will verify your identity to a reasonable degree before fulfilling certain requests.

6. Data Retention

We keep your data only as long as needed to:

  • Provide the service
  • Improve your experience

After you delete items locally or close an account, residual copies may linger briefly in backups or logs; we prune them on rolling schedules. Aggregated metrics derived from many users may be retained in a form that no longer identifies you.

7. Children's Privacy

CalmLingo is not intended for children under 4 years old.

We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Parents and guardians should supervise young learners’ device use. If you believe we have collected personal information from a child under the age threshold applicable in your region without appropriate consent, email us promptly so we can investigate and delete it where required.

8. Security

We use standard security practices to protect your data.

However, no system is completely secure.

You help keep your account safe by using a strong password, enabling device passcodes, and avoiding shared logins on public devices. Report suspected unauthorized access to support so we can assist with securing your profile.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

You will be notified of significant changes.

Minor clarifications may appear without a separate notice; substantive shifts—for example new categories of collection or new sharing partners—will be communicated through an in-app prompt, email, or prominent website banner consistent with platform rules. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance unless the law requires a different consent mechanism.
